KH Gallery Ginza will hold the exhibition entitled “Hiroko Koshino x Kazi Ghiyasuddin – Melody of Time”. Kazi, an artist active in Bangladesh and Japan, held the first collaborative exhibition with Koshino in 2016. The experience of working with an artist from different backgrounds influenced both of them and broadened their perspective in their activities. Koshino collaborated with Japanese traditional performing arts and music and successfully held an exhibition in New York. As for Kazi, he held a large-scale retrospective exhibition in Bangladesh last month and received a lot of praise.
In this second collaborative exhibition, Kazi will mainly present paper artworks. His paintings illustrate elaborate expressions using coincidence, which evoke various sounds in the nature. In response to this, Koshino will present abstract paintings, including the large work she created in 2014 and the latest works inspired by music. Flows of paints and freely drawn lines will create a sense of dynamism like a piano improvisation.
The exhibition with an artist who has a unique “sound” is a culmination for Koshino who has been striving to create a world of comprehensive art. Please come enjoy the rich melody created over time.

The 12th Nagauta Kinekatsukai National Competition was held in the Kabukiza Theatre. Hiroko Koshino is an accredited Nagauta performer who received the name of Kineya Katsuroku-jo.
At the national competition, in addition to performing “Kanjincho”, she produced the stage background for the Kinekatsukai’s traditional Nagauta medley “Shokyokushu”. Famous Nagauta songs were performed with the background of Sumi ink drawings she painted while taking inspiration from each song.
KH Gallery Ginza will hold the exhibition entitled “Hiroko Koshino -New Creations of Traditional Performing Arts”. Koshino grew up watching Kabuki with her grandfather and became acquainted with various forms of Japanese traditional culture. In particular, she has trained in Nagauta Shamisen for many years: she is an accredited performer belonging to Kinekatsukai. For the national competition of Nagauta Kinekatsukai which will be held in the Kabukiza Theatre in late April this year, she will draw the stage background for the Shokyokushu medley. This exhibition presents the new original ink paintings for the stage background, as well as Koshino’s works related to traditional culture. The original stage background paintings that she drew for famous Nagauta songs express the diverse worlds of Sumi ink. These works will be printed on large stage curtains using the technology of Seiren Co., Ltd. and will decorate the climax scene. The exhibition will also present kimono that she painted directly with a brush to wear it at the concert, as well as lacquerware that she decorated on the occasion of her exhibition in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, in 2018.
All the works displayed in the exhibition are the results of collaboration brought forth by Koshino who truly loves Japanese traditional performing arts and culture. Please enjoy the new creations that combine the value of tradition with a modern aesthetic sense, through which Koshino hopes people feel closer to the traditional art.
